Between April and June 2026, Donostia San Sebastián Turismo arranged several press trips for international media of strategic interest; the goal was to strengthen the positioning of the city on priority markets and to portray an image linked to culture, the culinary heritage, the city and premium experiences.

Three actions were organised for journalists from Germany and the United Kingdom in April. The National Geographic visit was on 16 April; this British magazine, represented by Eddie Fiegel, focused on culinary content and was specifically interested in experiences such as pintxo tours and the local culinary offering.

Subsequently, from 21 to 24 April, the German Traveller’s World, with Michael Hannwacker, was in San Sebastián on a visit focused on culture, art, premium accommodation and cuisine. The agenda included guided tours, experiences linked to Basque cuisine and top-tier establishments.

The press trip for The Times, with the journalist Ceci Browning, was from 27 to 29 April; it focused on premium culture and particularly on San Sebastián’s connections with figures of the ilk of Ernest Hemingway, as well as guided city tours.

In May, DSST coordinated a trip for a group from the Italian press —Il Giornale d’Italia, Travel+Leisure Italia, Il Foglio, Elle Décor, L’Espresso and Il Sole. This visit was the opportunity to strengthen San Sebastián’s strategic presence on the Italian markets through general, culture, lifestyle and travel newspapers and magazines.

Finally, a press trip was organised for the Michael Müller Verlag, the German travel publisher represented by Petra Sparrer, from 8 to 12 June. The trip featuring the city sought to consolidate the strategic positioning work on the German market, particularly though tourist editorial content.

These press trips overall are proof of the ongoing international strategic positioning between April and June 2026, with journalists from Germany, the United Kingdom and Italy. The trips combined premium, urban, culinary and cultural focuses; they highlighted DSST’s role in coordinating support, accommodation, guided tours, professional contacts and local experiences to foster the generation of quality content – and always with the emphasis on sustainability – on San Sebastián.
