Fantastic tourist figures

San Sebastián 08/10/2013 – All rating sources certify an excellent year for tourism in San Sebastián. Despite the hard-hitting economic recession, San Sebastián has succeeded in increasing all tourist indicators: overnight stays and incoming tourists, hotel occupation and the sale of tourist products for one of the best summers in recent years.
Visitors to and overnight stays in the city
According to Eustat figures, 357,761 overnight stays were recorded in San Sebastián for June, July and August 2013, i.e. 2.9% more than in the same period the previous year. Incoming visitors, if to a somewhat lower extent, also rose by 1.6%, with 161,467 visitors.

In other sources consulted, such as the National Statistics Institute (INE), despite small variations in incoming tourists and overnight stays, the trends were generally repeated, highlighting August as an excellent month for tourists.
Internationalisation of tourism
As far as the origin of visitors is concerned, we confirm a growing tendency to receive tourists from all over the world in San Sebastián. Although in summer 2011 the ratio between international and national overnight stays was almost identical, in 2012 there was a difference of 10 percentage points in favour of foreigners, and in 2013 16.3 points (58.17% international tourists against 42.83% of Spanish nationals).
In the area of incoming visitors, the tendency towards internationalisation is confirmed, with a repeated difference of 13.5 percentage points between national and international tourists.

Hotel occupation
As far as hotel occupation is concerned, the figures show a positive balance for the summer season. All of the sources consulted (Eustat and INE) show above-average occupations of 80% in June, July and August, with the latter enjoying the highest occupation (almost 88.4% according to Eustat).
